SC stays HC order convicting Mukhtar Ansari for threatening jailer

The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the Allahabad high court's verdict convicting former MLA Mukhtar Ansari and sentencing him to seven years imprisonment for threatening a jailer and pointing a pistol at him in 2003. The former lawmaker, who wields considerable influence in eastern Uttar Pradesh, is currently lodged in Banda jail.
