Discoms in Madhya Pradesh are seeking a tariff hike of 32 citing a revenue difference between their income and expenses of around Rs 1500 crores more than Rs 8600 million units of power worth Rs 3000 crore are estimated to be backed down this year. Simply put, these extra power produced is not likely to be used at all. The extra power is less than half of the total surplus energy as discoms estimate to sell more than 11000 million units of surplus energy which is apart from more than 8600 million units of backed down energy in the upcoming financial year ie 202324.
