Digital currency vs cryptocurrency: How are they different?

Digital currency is the electronic form of real-world money whereas cryptocurrencies run on the disruptive technology called the blockchain. Cryptos/cryptocurrencies are responsible for recording and storing data on all transactions that are essentially made in a public ledger (accessible by anyone).
